Ranju Tomu Ochakai in TakaHo, Houju no Ma
Ah, this is what happens when I put reports off for too long -- I forget all the details and lose the will to write about them.

But I'll give it a go anyway.

Tomu ochakai. Sunday, May 3rd.

Tegan and I got to Takarazuka Hotel at about 6:20PM. As we were sitting around and Tegan was finishing her postcard, a lady came over and said "I heard you're a fan of Alice-chan" and gave me a packet of three Alice senjafuda. o_O;;; Raaaaaaaandom.

Doors opened at 6:45PM. We were at table 35, but there were no seat numbers. (36 tables total seating 9 people each, so well over 300 people there.) We chose to seats off to one side where we wouldn't have to turn around to look at Tomu. Then we raided the goods table -- mostly just pictures. (Tomu Club has an interesting goods-selling system which involved a club-only sale somewhere near the hotel earlier in the day, so that the goods at the ochakai itself were only pictures from the last two performances, a few offstage ones, senjafuda, a poster and maybe a couple of other things.) I bought things for myself, Becca, and secret birthday presents for Tegan. ;D

Back at the table, our ochakai gifts were an official Tomu postcard and... a makeup brush and headband. >.>;;; We didn't actually figure out the headband part until one lady opened up the packaging and showed us how the band was to hold back one's hair. Interesting, Tomu Club, iiiiiiiiiiinteresting... The ladies at our table were nice and chatty; one gave us candy. XD Another woman said she's seen basically every show since the first BeruBara -- originally a Kasugano-sama fan. *______* We all called her "sensei". We gaijin got the usual questions, plus one lady wanted to know what our friends and family thought of Zuka. I failed at including Tegan enough in translating the questions and answers. T____T;;

Tomu didn't come until 8:00PM-ish. We verified with a club photographer who was waiting nearby that it was okay to wave when she came in -- through the door directly in front of us ♥______♥ Her mic wasn't on loud enough for us to hear the first half of "Sparkling Wakasa", which she sang as she strode through the tables. But at least we heard the end of it? ^^;;;

Tomu Fashion Check: beige suit, white vee-necked T-shirt underneath, white stole, a necklace with a cross and a pale blue stone.

We had rehearsed the toast beforehand: the MC would lead us with せーの and we would sing め~でたい♪ like in BaraAme. At least some people remembered the instruction -- and Tomu responded perfectly with 飲~みたい♪, even though she clearly had had no advance notice of this. Her face was cute ♥ Then the MC told Tomu to do a proper toast X3 and from there it was question time.

On BaraAme -- "how did you feel about having the character name 'Orange'?" (オーランジュ, it's pronounced in a French-y way so it sounds like "Oh Ranju" XD) Tomu said that in one of her Hanagumi-era shows written by Masatsuka-sensei (La Esperanza) she had received the role name "Tom", so naturally her response to this was "Masatsuka-sensei, you did it again..." But when she said as much to him, he told her with a straight face that he had just tried to pick a name that fit with the setting and only noticed the coincidence himself when putting Tomu's name next to the character name. Tomu remains convinced that this is a total lie XDD;;;

Victor is a 30-year-old bachelor. Just as we see in the play, he spends most of his time going to clubs and parties and generally doing whatever he likes, "because he's free". He also stays single "because he's free". If he finds the right person he may eventually settle down, but for right now he lives as he feels.

What happens to the business after Justin leaves? They go into a more security- and insurance-related direction, and when Justin finishes his car maybe they do car insurance (I could be totally wrong on this answer).

Speaking of cars Tomu herself likes driving; on days off when she has time for a drive, she goes to temples or other far-away places. When asked the same question Justin says in the play (are you good at driving), she gave us the same answer (well, reasonably good ;).

When asked about backstage antics or onstage happenings she told the story about Dai-chan that I related here. Plus the one about Susshii-san's mustache. And as I implied in that other post, Tomu also praised Susshii-san's comic talent and said she has to try hard not to laugh during "めでたい 飲みたい".

...Argh. See, I put things off and then I forget all the stories and mix things that I heard from different sources and grah.

I think after questions was handshaking? As always, the order that tables were called in made little sense to me, but we were somewhere in the middle. Our table-mates were pretty insistent that since Tomu loves English / is good at English, we should say things in English to her. As we waited our turn we were both fidgeting and freaking out about who should go first and what we should say, etc. Tegan went first, and I think she told Tomu "you're beautiful". ;) I thought and thought about what I should say right up until it was my turn and then what I blurted out was "I'm Tegan's friend". ^^;;;; Fail. But she thanked me in English and was sooooooooo sooooooooooooooooooo suteki and then I skipped away ahaha.

And then as I was trying to catch up to Tegan someone at one of the tables I was skipping by was like "blah blah Alice-chan blah blah" and I whipped my head around but didn't see who it was. Pretty sure they were talking about me though, heh, yay >.>;;;;

Table-mates were pretty unimpressed by our lack of communication skills with Tomu ;P What did they expect, honestly?? (Especially since the line moved so fast.)

Before or after this was nervous scarfing down of cake. There were three or four cake varieties; mine was, I believe, a yellow cake with lots of frosting and fruit. Probably strawberries. (This piece of information included because Maggy said she likes to know about cake. ;P)

Then game? This was also something that had been partially prepared beforehand. On each table there was a sheet of paper with five boxes. Tomu was going to be tested on her fedora-throwing skills, we had to guess how many times and in what order she would succeed. Our table decided to have absolute faith in Tomu and voted that she would succeed all five times. ;D

A staff person went behind a screen once to get the fedoras for Tomu, then went back again to prepare herself. When she came out again she was wearing a colorful bandanna on her head (just like they all do in the Ricky Martin number) and carrying a kiddie pool -- also on her head. She kept a straight face but was doing kind of a silly dance, and Tomu laughed ♥ ♥ (Much respect for that staff lady.)

First Tomu was allowed a practice throw -- and landed it. :D We applauded. (From the dais where Tomu was standing to the staff person with the pool was a distance of perhaps less than 20 feet.) Then throw number one for real, she landed that one too. Throw #2 I think also went in? But it was either #2 or #3 where she started messing up. XDD And at #4 I think was when they started increasing the difficulty by moving the pool around.

Final tally was, I believe, hit-hit-miss-miss-miss. X3 Tomu was good-natured about it of course, but afterward she insisted that she be allowed to show us how it's actually done -- because in reality she has to toss her fedora into the wings, not do some sissy weak throw into a kiddie pool. ;P So she lobbed one across the room for us X3 Applause again ♥ ♥ ♥

Anyway, there were two or three tables that actually guessed the exact order of Tomu's success / failure. They janken-ed for... what was it? Oh! The balloons? I think they were the table that got red heart balloons. X3

It's always hard to remember because after that was the prize drawing and I can never keep straight what everyone won. I just remember that some of the drawings were only for club members, or club members who had done certain things, and then the table next to us all won something (signed stills?). I think one table won stills and one table won offstage photos, or a different still, or something.

But anyway, at least since it was the table NEXT to us we got to ogle Tomu at close range again as she handed out prizes ♥ ♥ ♥ And actually, I think the woman sitting next to Tegan won something too ^^;;;

The main question corner had been generic questions, and then later they pulled questions people had actually submitted. I believe this is where Tomu talked about the Sora kumibon. :D

She was like, "there's a photo spread with me, Tani and Ume-chan, and one of me by myself..."

And we were like, uh-huh, that's nice, Tomu... *waits expectantly*

And she said, "and I protested and fought against it and said no no no, but... Yes, there are pictures of me in a dress."

We all cheered and laughed. >:D

It's one of Ume-chan's dresses, but I didn't catch which one. Tomu said just looking at herself in it made her think "god, I'm so BIG". And everyone stared at her open-mouthed when she came out. :P Also, Ume-chan lent her all of her personal accessories and Tomu thought "wow, it's hard to be a musumeyaku".

...Wait, was the present from Tomu before or after this? And what was the present from all of us to Tomu? Her necklace? I think it was her necklace and/or whatever accessories she was wearing.

The gift from Tomu was obviously a song, and the song was obviously "She". Before the song she was asked to comment on sign language and teach us a couple of easy signs. She showed us the ones for "life" and "happiness".

Then she walked through the tables and sang "She" and flirted with people but not us and it was magical ♥ ♬ ♥ ☆ ♥ ♬ ♥

In her final speech she talked about how it's an honor to be able to do Phoenix 2. Suzuki-sensei is working hard on the script now, so even she doesn't know what it'll be like yet. But it certainly is a shame that "Leona and Edgeworth" won't be in it. And she said nice things about the taidansha, etc.

And then we saw her off with applause; she walked through the tables and smiled at us and went out the doors and it was over?

Tegan, feel free to chime in with everything I missed T_____T;;;

Love for your fail at talking to her. And uh...wow, your reputation for being an elite Alice-chan fan is spreading beyond your own club!

I know these take a really long time to dictate out, but I really, really enjoyed reading it, so please know that your efforts are very much so appreciated.

Tomu? Dress? Yes, please?

And admiration for you for managing such a comprehensive ochakai report so long after the fact. Your memory astonishes me!
Juliewao_wao on May 29th, 2009 11:59 pm (UTC)
Well, I write down notes afterward. But the reason the details get fuzzy and I question myself on the order is because this time I didn't take very good notes. T_____T;;

Drag!Tomu >:D ♥ ♥ ♥ YES PLEASE with bells on. ♥

Haha okay so from what I remember (and believe me you probably remember more than me!) - I thought it was ten people per table coz we were talking about how there were about 360 ppl there.

Um...The めでたい、のみたい toast was great because her reaction when we all chanted めでたい was like... "Er...のみたい???" XD Oh Tomu, you are so freaking cute when you're confused! XD .

Also I thought the game was before the handshaking? Anyway, minor details haha! They actually PLAYED the Ricky Martin number when the staff member came out with the kiddie pool, which was hilarious. I remember the score - she got her test one in, failed the next two, and got her final three in, so the score was: miss, miss, hit, hit, hit. ^^ . It was pretty funny when she called out for the staff to bring back a hat so she could show us how it's "really" done haha!

The present from us WAS the necklace she was wearing, and they took photos of her wearing it (which, fingers crossed, will be available SOON! COME ON CLUB! DON'T LEAVE ME HANGING!)

The table next to us won a group raffle prize, and while our table were all "dammit!", Tomu came over to hand out the photos, so MORE CLOSE UP TOMU! &hearts . I don't think anyone at our table won anything though - I'm sure more of a fuss would have been made by the others if they had - I don't remember anything getting passed around from an "oooh you won such a cute/cool picture etc!" perspective.

"She" was amazing. I totally teared up. It's one of my favourite Tomu songs.

God I can't wait for the ochakai DVD...Julie, we are totally watching it together and then we can add anything we both missed...and sort out the hat throwing score XD. &hearts
