Too many things to put in one post
1. Okay. I admit, whenever a top musumeyaku isn't listed for a small-theater show I go into automatic conspiracy theorizing mode. I blame Mihoko and Great Gatsby, the one(?) time our fears turned out to be justified.

But I will not sit around and listen to people extrapolate that one omission into some grand multiple-troupe overhaul theory. I won't hear it. I deny its plausibility by my own stubborn will.

...Eheh. Wouldn't be the first time something turned out to be true even though I didn't want it to be. But I'm going to sit here being mulish until whatever's coming actually comes.

I guess I never did talk about Matobun's retirement announcement. I've been having an off-again, on-again relationship with the internet, and that was one of my "off" days. (And I guess nobody texted me because it wasn't about Soragumi.) But it sucks, it sucks because she's my favorite top right now and because Ran-chan gets less than a year with her as a partner.

Even more than that, though, it means the "Tomu moving to Hanagumi" talk has redoubled -- and I was already sick of hearing it before.

It won't happen. I will it not to. So there. *glares*

2. Something I would've liked to be stubborn about but bend to the popular vote on -- Studio 54 summary is up on the Wiki with "Holly".

...

I was going to say something different, but when I dictated out that sentence my speech recognition program rendered the name as "Hawley".

o_O;;

Um... Can we cast a re-vote?? Is this the solution to our "but it's a girl's name" problem? A small part of me still prefers "Holy" by the simple logic that the katakana indicates a long "o" sound... But then again English has 14 vowel sounds and Japanese has, like, five.

Comments?

3. Another thing about the Wiki. Those of us with the big shiny invisible editor's badges do not rule it with an iron hand. A wiki is by the people, for the people. At least twice now people have asked my permission to fix some small romanization / spelling / grammar / other mistake, and I want everyone to know that that isn't necessary. Please feel free to take initiative on these things. If it's something more complicated and you're afraid of breaking the Wiki of course you can ask for help, but seriously. Please do contribute on your own.

...Phew. It seems to be my night for ranting. ^^;;

4. Not a rant, but related to the Wiki: I still haven't translated the summary for Micchan's show word-for-word yet, but it was amusing to skim that article about Emperor Norton. I wanted to double-check that the man was never a reporter, in which case the title might be better rendered "A Journalist and an Emperor" (implying that he was both). Does everyone agree with me that it seems more likely that the journalist is a separate person?

...A love interest? >:) I wonder... Really, I wonder how they're going to turn a crazy old man into an attractive otokoyaku role, but I guess they do that all the time ;) Tanoshimi ni shiteru, Oono-sensei.

5. Last thing. This is just weird.

Since I've been back in the States I've started substitute teaching again, until I get my head around what I really want to do.

I had a two-day assignment yesterday and today, and when you see 30 kids rotated through 5 hours you're bound to see several absences... But I couldn't help but notice that one boy was gone both days.

His name was Valentino.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat.

My bet is on the journalist being Mark Twain - he was acquainted with Norton and wrote articles about him, IIRC.

Oh my god you're right, thank you for that completely brilliant image. OTOKOYAKU MARK TWAIN. *__________*

I just never want to tread on the toes of someone who is more dedicated to a particular seito than I am.

Also, I am with you on the giant troupe swapping rumour. *plugs ears and hums*

1) I seriously regret bringing up the absence of Sumika's name in the announcement . . . that was when everything last night went completely downhill for me. *facepalm*

And MY theory is that when - not if, WHEN - Tomu becomes top, it's after Yuuhi. I've never thought otherwise. But I guess that entry I posted proves that I am highly immunodeficient to rumors T_T

2) I wouldn't mind a revote myself ;) Hawley seems like a more reasonable choice for a guy's name than Holly :D And much much MUCH more suitable for Kiriyan, in my opinion XD

3) I've edited the wiki a few times unabashedly in the past weeks and I wasn't too sure if I was doing the right thing, but I never asked. I'm glad you've confirmed this ;)

4) I'll admit I know nothing about Emperor Norton, but the fact that your immediate image of him was "crazy old man" interests me to no end. I wonder how Oono-sensei's going to change it, and how Micchan'll play it out 8D I mean, when I first read about Nelson, it said that when he first met Emma he was "prematurely aged and there wasn't a single tooth left in his mouth", and that fact horrified me for days until the actual show XDDD

I assumed the title was kind of similar in style to "An Officer and a Gentleman" (even though that's not the title in Japanese) but you're right, it's a possibility that the "journalist" is the lover ;)

And in the end: Micchan ganbare!!! <333

5) Valentino . . . scary. O_O

1. It's okay. I've unwittingly caused some fandom panics in my day ;)

2. Yay, that's one yes vote ♥

3. Like I said ♥ Actually I'd really like to pick your brain sometime about lots of things we've romanized / translated awkwardly...

4. Well, I mean, the guy declared himself Emperor of San Francisco XDD;; Hence the crazy. As for old, well, Takarazuka has "aged down" its heroes so many times I can't even begin. (lol @ Nelson)

As for the title, there is a subtle difference between "The Journalist and the Emperor" (=likely two people) and "A Journalist and an Emperor" (=more likely one person), which is why it's on my mind.
tsuki_in_sora on November 6th, 2010 08:33 am (UTC)
Emperor of San Francisco? The United States had an EMPIRE once? O_O Wow I fail at US History ^^;;

Takarazuka has aged down a lot of the heroes so many times that often I think, "Eh, didn't he meet her when he was a lot older? XD", but they're not as successful as making unattractive heroes attractive; take Gin-chan, for instance XDDD So I wonder if they're going to change him completely to someone all golden and good or Micchan will be playing an evil lead role >:)

I wonder what's up with the journalist bit though? Is there any evidence he was in love with one? Or maybe, Micchan will be the journalist and someone else - preferably someone big like Tomochin or Masako - would be the emperor?

OK forget that XD Maybe that thing with Kacha's Natacha was just a fluke, I totally suck at casting speculations XDDD

...Okay you seriously need to read this XDD;;;
tsuki_in_sora on November 6th, 2010 02:03 pm (UTC)
. . . OK now I know I totally fail at history ^^;;;

From now on I'm not making any more speculations about stuff I don't know about XDDD

It couldn't be 'Harley', could it? I'm not very good with Japanese sounds, so I'm not sure if it would work.
tsuki_in_sora on November 6th, 2010 02:09 pm (UTC)
I think if it were Harley it would have been written "ハーリー" instead of with a "ホ". Which makes things even more confusing ^^;; I remember being puzzled over "ロジェ" because the only thing I could think up was "Roger", even though I knew that would certainly be "ロジャー".

At least Hankyuu provided the correct translation of that ;) No one's officially translating Studio 54, so I guess this one would be open to all speculation XDDD

hahahahahaha now you're being haunted. XD
