It's bunkasai's fault that "Sakura" is stuck in my head.
So, hey, I watched the 97ths' bunkasai today.

Yeeeaaahh, I finally see what you guys were saying about Rui Makise XDD;; Only in Hoshigumi is that ~*~Acting~*~ going to fly, kiddo, so I really hope the company knows to put you in the right place ^_^;;;

On the other hand, Megan's acting and singing are all kinds of amazing ♬ ☆ ♥ ☆ ♬

ALSO, REIKA-CHAN DANCING. EVERYWHERE REIKA-CHAN DANCING IN THE CENTER. Okay when I say "everywhere" I really mean in the ballet bits -- but ALL OF THE BALLET BITS. CENTER. REIKA-CHAN. I was dumbstruck. I usually don't pick them this well but oh my freaking god I'm so proud of her ♥ ♥ ♥

Karin-chan had the double misfortune of a) having the same role as Megan in the acting bit and b) picking a less-cute wig... I mean it was nice, it was just that Megan's hair and more importantly her acting was better. T___T;; But I still believe in Karin-chan because at least her ◊◊SMILE◊◊ was everywhere. And that's what made me love her, so gambare~☆☆ Karin-chaaann♥♥♥

I have more comments on other babies but I won't bore you all ^_^;;

I also watched Luna Rossa! And... have less comments! >.>;;; It was a standard revue, not really my favorite. There was Kaname. Didn't take as much to get used to her as I thought it would, I guess because I've had months of looking at pictures of her in Soragumi leading up to this.

I need to watch it again and squint in the background to find the really good bits, I guess, like who Monchi was dancing with in the bazaar in her Paco Redux costume, and who Ten-chan was buying baubles from, and in general get as much Sexy Musumeyaku Appreciation in as can be done with those camera angles -___-

Am hoping for a better general outcome in Classico / Nice Guy.

May I ask, did you notice Mii-chan at all in Luna Rossa? (I am having a Zuka renaissance. I have rewatched almost everything I own in the last week)

Of course I noticed her! She gets sexier every time I see her!! I mean, in all those peripheral camera shots, that is. I'm still getting used to watching Soragumi on DVD and not knowing what's going on in the background >.>;;

I'm so impressed with the way she's growing up. Just seeing the difference between Kiss to the Flames and the Phoenixes Wright and That Dance in BaraAme and Trafalgar... I'm so proud of her. (The revue portion of PW II just about puts me in tears. That big beautiful smile and how much her dancing has improved... *_*)

1) I hear her role in Valentino is really awesome too ^^

2) A present for you!

LEG. O.O (And great boots.)

I want to see Valentino! And Gin-chan too. The idea of Mii-chan with Monchi as one of her lackeys sounds so delightful! I'm to be getting some Tani-era shows soon, which is really exciting to me. I was watching A/L and realizing it's the only Tani/Ume-chan show I have. Sort of ridiculous that I own as many Yuuhi shows as Tani shows when I love Tani and Ume-chan SO MUCH MORE.

A/L is the ONLY Tani/Ume show you've seen?!?! THIS IS NOT RIGHT,

I KNOW! I've seen bits of Singin' in the Rain and That Dance from BaraAme and the Halloween party bit from PariPuri. I saw the Valencia shinko digest (for obvious reasons) and one number from Sora Fantasista, but that's it. (I own both Phoenix Wrights, but I got them for Mii-chan.)

A standard revue? Seriously? I thought it was fantastic; great music and choreography, and it had a really cohesive flow to it, rather than Funky Sunshine or Apasionado which were just collections of random scenes thrown together. I'd been apprehensive since I'd been lukewarm on the previous two revues, but this one blew me out of the water, and is now easily my favorite revue out of everything I've seen.

I've been talking to various people about this recently...revues I personally find to be very subjective. And even if you try to be objective, different people rank different attributes differently /babbling

Personally, I think I prefer Funky Sunshine to Luna Rossa, as I'm more of a genki happy revue person. But that being said, Luna Rossa is really beautiful, so I appreciate it as well! (Also, when Teffy, Julie, and I were watching tonight, Teffy was bemoaning the filming, saying that it didn't capture the beauty of the choreography).

Well, yes, of course opinions on revues will be subjective, as will opinions on shows. I just felt that "standard" as a descriptor was not a correct one, as Luna Rossa had a very unique feel to it, both musically and thematically. I think a perfect example of "standard" is Rhapsodic Moon, as it did nothing different from convention (was essentially a much weaker Revue of Dreams) and had no particular scenes that left any sort of impression. Furthermore, I would say that Funky Sunshine and Apasionado aren't standard either, as they have their own memorable bits that can define them (FS in particular). But regardless of whether one likes a show or not, I think it can be said that Luna Rossa deviated considerably from the "otokoyaku in suits doing stuff/okay now let's have the top musumeyaku in peril and she gets rescued by the top otokoyaku/suits again hey it's a chuuzume/wacky number???/rockette dance with the chocobo costumes" pattern and thus doesn't deserve a label like "standard." Though as I've not watched my DVD yet, perhaps the filming did fail to do the production justice. If that is indeed the case, then I hope for better things once raku airs on Sky Stage.
Julie: solar powerwao_wao on August 17th, 2011 08:26 am (UTC)
Eh. *shrugs* "Standard" probably isn't the right word, but it's not like Luna Rossa is the first revue to be Arabian-themed or anything either. So replace your summary with "stranger falls in love with another stranger number / amusing pop idol nibante number / colorful chuuzume / requisite otokoyaku in drag number / big inspirational group number"... It usually boils down to the same things... unless you're talking about Solomon's Ring, or any buyou revue.

The filming will certainly have had something to do with it, I'm sure, but I'm with Becca -- as I said to her, I prefer the genki, energizing revues to the "mesmerize and entrance you" types. And again, as she said, the camera cut away so much that I couldn't fully appreciate the choreography. Revues are always meant to be seen live.

Also, I daresay I'd have a different opinion if there had been an Alice-chan among those musumeyaku in the sexy Arabian costumes. Definitely the Arabia number in Dancing for You, and the amount of hip-swirling Alice-chan did, ranks among my favorite dances.

Apparently this time around I missed some great stuff in the chuuzume where Yuuhi dances with all the ladies... If only there were an angle for every musumeyaku :( Every seito, really :(
palais: yuuhi: smilepalais on August 17th, 2011 10:07 am (UTC)
It really is so hard to film a revue and convey the effect of seeing it in person. I almost would rather they have one still camera and have it all be one long shot. Alas. Perhaps twenty years from now technology will have evolved so there IS an angle for everyone and we can just pick and choose at our leisure. ;)

Also, I just misread "Ten-chan buying baubles" as "Ten-chan buying babies" and was like "WAIT WHAT WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN"

The filming will certainly have had something to do with it . . . the camera cut away so much that I couldn't fully appreciate the choreography.

O_O O_O O_O I don't have the DVD yet so I can't talk, but OMG WHAT IN FREAKIN HECK DID THE CAMERAMEN DO TO MY FAVORITE REVUE. *headdesk*

I now badly wish I had finished my review way earlier (it's still put to sleep cuz I'm busy with a lot of other stuff yes everyone can hit me now). That *probably* could have left a more positive image ;__;

If only there were an angle for every musumeyaku :( Every seito, really :(

I'm with palais; hope SkyStage does it right next time >:/

Also, I daresay I'd have a different opinion if there had been an Alice-chan among those musumeyaku in the sexy Arabian costumes.

That would totally have been AWESOME. She'd be absolutely gorgeous! *____* <33333

Maybe the one thing I was a tiny bit disappointed with this revue was the lack of hip-swinging overall despite it being an Arabian-themed revue? Or did I forget a whole lot already? (EXCEPT ECCHAN IN THE BAZAAR OF COURSE.)
Julie: alice windowwao_wao on August 18th, 2011 05:37 pm (UTC)
To be honest it wouldn't have mattered whose review I read beforehand. I wasn't there. Like I said, I'm still getting used to only seeing my troupe on DVD... And I guess I'm so desperate to catch all the faces I love in the background that I can't really appreciate things as a whole.

I dunno. As Yuuhi/Sumika revues go, I think Funky Sunshine will always be my favorite -- not just for the revue but all the memories mixed in with it. Nothing's going to replace that in this top era.

Would it be better to say "who else" instead of "what else"? Because I honestly don't know the other babies. XD
