Drama drama drama
There are so many GOOD things I could be sharing.

Seriously, fandom? Has it really come to this?

"For the time being, member acceptance is heavily moderated. Not everybody is going to get in, but if you're mature enough to handle the kinds of things the other side of the Takarazuka fandom has to say, then we may consider you for membership."

"The other side"?!?! I presume "mature enough to handle" means "we feel like you're on 'our' side".

"We're a mostly motley crew of hardcore and casual fangirls of the Takarazuka Revue, and this is the place to wank about the politics behind both the fandom (mostly just the English speaking side)--" BECAUSE IT'S AS IF YOU KNEW ANYTHING ABOUT THE JAPANESE SIDE AHEM "--and the Revue itself... Please also note that both snarking and wanking will occur frequently, and not all of it will be polite."

If people are going to "wank" me or my friends, I swear I'm going to lock down my whole freaking journal.

This drama has just sickened me lately. I'm appalled that people think it is mature to do this, and I'm dumbfounded that the phrase "personal attacks are not allowed" is in the rules. Backpedaling much?

Attacking me in this post will only solidify a decision to close off this journal. If people say we're being cliquey, for god's sake so are they.

URGH it's become "us" and "them". I never, ever expected or wanted to see this happen.

*edits* One more thing. This is a much smaller issue by comparison, but it made me frown at the TakaWiki being kind of offhandedly referred to in a "that site I use so much" sort of way... As if people don't realize that that site was built up by the hands of us "old" fans.

I guess it's just something you can't expect the "new" fans to know. But it saddens me.

I'm afraid I've seen this happen in so many fandoms that it was only a matter of time :( Personally, I don't intend to pay any heed to it. Takarazuka makes me happy. I see no reason why people need to be bitchy and mean over it.

You know, I have no words for this. It makes me so sad.
All this drama... and for what?
I'm hoping so much that it calms down soon.
Beth Winterbwinter on April 25th, 2009 04:51 pm (UTC)
Especially with the fact the community's membership is listed there to see, it's got a very "clique" feel to it :/ Some people can't live without causing problems with something.

I prefer to await reports of the Hoshigumi graduation tomorrow :) And dither of whether or not I want to go crazy and see BaraAme too since I will be in Tokyo a few days before it closes...

I'm so baffled by all of this. I didn't even know there was a 'them'. Am I a them? I don't mean to be...

I'm with you. I don't have a clue about any of this. @_@

I don't really understand why so many of these new fans seem to be behaving so horribly. To be honest, I get the feeling they're less interested in the revue than that they're interested in doing fandom, and Takarazuka is just their new subject of choice.

*raises hand* I for one have found the "old" fans to be an incredibly kind, polite, and patient group. And I say this candidly as someone who is neither "old" nor "in." :)

As frustrated and annoyed as I am, the immaturity of the parties involved still manages to amuse me a bit. Mostly in the, "...are you serious?" kind of way. Particularly that they are so convinced that they are not in the wrong.
*bitter laugh* Wan't to see what they have to say in response?. *rolls eyes*

*sigh* Drama, why does it have to screw with everything.

Eee... I don't even really know what's going on! I don't want to be a part of any drama; I'm not like that! I hope you don't see me as 'one of them' because I joined that group?
I joined because it seemed like a good place to talk about things in the takarazuka without feeling self-conscious or like I was breaking some rule I didn't know about? I don't know... I'm new... I don't know much. And I'm joining groups to meet more fans and get to know more. I don't want to be on a 'side.'

Since I've found out about the Takarazuka (and I've really only been a fan since January... but it seems like years and years and years) I've only encountered the nicest of the nice of zuka fans. I've never had any drama with any zuka fans - they've all been really nice to me. :)

So... I know some people have had issues with other fans... that's not good. But I haven't and I don't want to be a part of any drama, just so people know.

I'm going to continue watching some of Marie Antoinette now because it's really awesome from what I've seen! Though what I've seen is... not much!! :)

Please, feel free to join any community you wish. I just hope that none of the kind of nasty talk I'm afraid will go on there will actually occur.

I'm very glad that you've had only good experiences with other fans and hope it stays that way. :)

I gotta say, this is all over my head. -_- I've been in this fandom since '02, and granted, I've been a little lax in the last few years. But even then I kept up with the livejournal and the yahoogroup. I wonder how I missed...whatever this is. @_@

Oh well. I'm sure they've got divisions like this in every fandom--they have in all the ones I've been part of. We can all still have fun with our obsessive worshipful love. Hee...

I, for one, am a fairly new fan who certainly appreciates what the "old" fans have done for the online community as a whole. While I haven't had that much interaction with the "old" fans, I haven't found them to be unjustifiably "elitist" or whatever anyone wants to call it. I've found the few of your posts I've read to be a great source of information as well, and would be definitely sad if you chose to lock them all!

I just hope that all of the members of that community aren't all grouped under the label of "new, ungrateful fans". Somehow, I had the proper credentials to join the community, which I did mostly in the hope that there would be some genuine Takarazuka discussion on there. Which, granted, there has been, but there's also been plenty of what you and many other people expected as well.

Sorry for randomly, and somewhat awkwardly, commenting here, but I thought I'd put in my two cents.

Takarazuka is dramatic as it is; does it need to be part of the fandom as well?

I will admit that a year ago, I was in a bit of frightened awe of all the "older" fans. Though I've come to befriend a lot of fans, that feeling of mutual respect never faded. I don't know where that has gone, now.

I do remember that the time I started being a fan, the TakaWiki had been down. When it came back online, I was very much in awe that it had so much information and that it was built by such a dedicated, determined few! And in that sense, though the "fright" has gone away, the awe never has.

I really hope things calm down.

Things needs to calm down, they really do because at this moment I'm a bit frightened, :(

Not sure if I'm an old or new fan but, as many have said before me, the older fans have always been extremely nice with the newcomers for what I have seen and out primary source of information. I remember when I started in the community, not really sure of how thins worked, and was treated so nicely by everybody. Zuka community never seemed threatning or elitist for me, contrary to so many other fandoms I've been to. I hope it doesn't change for worse =/

Come on, just concentrate on something nice and let the drama pass, yes? ^______^
Toni Dtonihime on April 26th, 2009 01:24 am (UTC)
I wish I could see more of the drama. Too many locked posts I'm not privy to because I'm not a Zuka person. :( Somebody give me the skinny on the trash talk!
ginapagottginapagott on April 26th, 2009 01:33 am (UTC)

I hate it when fan groups have the "OMG WE'RE REAL FANS ARE YOU AREN'T" subgroups. Divisions don't help. T_T

Sorry for popping in, but I found this on the "friends-of" Takarazuka LJ list and felt the need to comment.

I joined the comm because I was interested in reading and perhaps joining in conversations about Takarazuka. I had no idea that there was some sort of drama that prompted its creation until after I joined, but either way I have found the discussions interesting.

I am very thankful for all the information the older fans have supplied via LJ and the wiki. I wouldn't understand even half of what I do now if it wasn't for all that hard work! But I do have to admit that this fandom is pretty intimidating for newbies. I've been watching Takarazuka for almost four years (so you could hardly call me a newbie!) and only recently have I felt comfortable about trying to enter the fandom. TBH I don't think it's a fault of the fandom so much as a fault of Takarazuka itself - there is just SO much information, rules, and history that a new fan is naturally going to have trouble fitting in at first. I guess the new fans feel defensive over not knowing as much, and the old fans get irritated over having to explain the same things over and over. It's the circle of fandom life, unfortunately.

I do hope this drama works itself out over time. The more I've learned from the fandom, the more I've liked of it. It's been so much more welcoming and positive than my last musicals fandom (Sera Myu). I truly hope the older members of fandom don't isolate themselves from the rest of us, because I really want to keep learning more!

Sorry for the wall of text ^^;.
Juliewao_wao on April 26th, 2009 12:07 pm (UTC)
Thank you for your comment. :)

I'll be the first to admit that the relationship between "oldbies" and "newbies" in this fandom has not been amazing all the time. Honestly, *I* was intimidated when I entered the fandom three years ago.

Unfortunately the damage can not be undone as far as "noobs" who have been snapped at and such. But I hope this has taught us all something and we come out better for the experience.

And that there will be less ridiculous drama in the future. ;)

i'm a member of the comm too.
hmmm so far, they haven't bash anyone in my f-list yet. O_o
if they did i would personally whack their heads. hahahahaha

their topics are just random. for example.. what do you feel about the new Hoshi or something like that.

Well then it just saddens me that people feel like they can't discuss things on the regular community.

i don't know.. they are afraid at the response on their posts i think. O_o
