Casablanca's "一部の配役"
See, this is why I've said "objectively I'm excited about Casablanca because it's TAKARAZUKA doing CASABLANCA"...

But then sometimes I forget what I'm supposed to be looking forward to.

The site promises that MORE roles should be released at a later date, but actually, who cares! There are no other important roles! Random refugees and bystanders in the club don't need role names!

...Meh.

According to Tegan, Tomu left at 4:45PM today... but when I mailed my club for tomorrow's standby time Harada-san responded that "rehearsals were running late", and then didn't mail me again until after 9:00PM.

I found this extremely odd -- on top of the oddness that Tomu, Tomochin and Micchan were reported to have gone in before 10:30AM, when Alice-chan, Dai-chan and Kacha had standby times close to noon. Then I remembered that this is Koike-sensei, who for all his shows is said to do...

...Auditions. I wonder if they had auditions.

Hmmmmm.

By the way, I hope I didn't seem uncaring about Ban-san's retirement before. I mean it wasn't a surprise, but it's still sad. Then again, I go back and forth on what's more lamentable -- the loss of a solid upperclassman with a shining career... or that of a little baby who never got to do much of anything. :\

Anyway. Need to be writing a letter for tomorrow.

... do you think Ren-chan will be given permission to touch a bottle or a glass in the bar?

Ahahaha! Oh god, I hope so! Or perhaps, "random passerby as Yuuhi and Sumika flash back to their happier days in Paris". ;)

(If you're really lucky, she'll get to be a nameless soldier X3)

....at least she will be the tallest nameless soldier in the show !

Ban-san had a forty-year career - I think that's one retirement that's really a retirement in the non-Takarazuka sense of the word :) I think that changes one's outlook a lot.

Unfortunately this is a likely possibility. But to give some other examples, Yashiro Kou has done a concert post-retirement. Ritsu Tomomi has done the same, and she also continues to act.

Anyway, regardless of what she does post-taidan I'm so glad that Ban-san is getting a good role to go out on <3

What I meant was that Takarasiennes get old like everyone else - Ban-san would be nearly sixty, and she's given her all to Takarazuka for forty years. There comes a time when the performance schedule really isn't healthy anymore, and she's well earned some rest :)

You may be right, but soragumi has been off for 2-4 weeks depending on the cast. Couldn't he have done auditions then? ^^;

I'm assuming you'll ask Alice-chan about the situation tomorrow?

I hope I didn't come off that way in my entry ^^; It's more that if there aren't going to be a lot of role names, I would rather have a show where people got to do cute things in the background over a show where there were lots of roles names but little stage time for lots of people.

The thing with Takarazuka and characters is that it needs a REALLY large list of role names in order to accomodate everyone. Original plays (such as Paradise Prince) work best for this. Your average Broadway musical wouldn't bother featuring anyone other than the main roles. (Even though Casablanca isn't already a musical, it's still a previously established work).

Pimpernel, for example, actually had to add in that reprise of "You Are My Home" where the League members catch up with their girlfriends. Otherwise there wasn't much for the members of the League (which including a lot of prominent otokoyaku) to do.

And of the few remaining roles, there are a couple of interest. In the movie I really liked the girl who was struggling with whether or not she should sleep with Renault in order to secure letters of transit for her and her boyfriend. And Ugarte (the guy with the letters of transit) gets some good scenes before he gets killed off. And Carl and Sascha (staff) get some good lines and get to rig the roulette wheel ;)

No, it wasn't your post that made me feel that way. I view it as a statement of fact -- Casablanca was not made for an 80-person cast.

I would rather have a show where people got to do cute things in the background over a show where there were lots of roles names but little stage time for lots of people.

So what you mean is, you'd rather there be no pretense of "role name = importance" and just put the majority of people in the background? ^^;;

It's difficult to say what's best. Probably nothing will ever be good as ParaPuri for giving lots of people a chance to show their individuality. And I mean, I know about the changes to Pimpernel and stuff.

Anyway, I should say "something is better than nothing" for Alice-chan... but I'm going to sulk a little while longer. :P

You misinterpret my words, woman ;P You're right, this definitely doesn't look like a great situation. But it may not necessarily be a irredeemably horrible situation. I would rather have underclassmen do cute things in the background over having them not do anything at all.

It's understandable in this situation *hugs*
