I decided one more post could be made here.

More thoughts on Casablanca

I have now seen this show three times in five days. Ack. ^^;;;

My feelings haven't changed much from my initial opinions.

Yuuhi I find to be too "the otokoyaku"; too cleaned-up and not quite enough of the gruff, dry and biting attitude of the original Richard Blaine.

Tomu I find to be too "the otokoyaku Ranju Tomu" and not enough "a born leader with so much charisma and faith in the cause that it pours out of his eyes" Victor Laszlo.

Micchan I find to be too comical and not enough evil. I want enough evil to make people actually doubt Renault's loyalties instead of being sure that he'll help Rick in the end.

Sumika I find to be too young and too shallow and a very off-balance partner for Yuuhi.

But I seriously am going to just stop talking about Sumika now. I've watched her enough, it doesn't make me happy, my opinion isn't likely to change and you all don't need to keep hearing about it.

To anyone reading this and thinking of seeing the show, I have two pieces of advice.

1. Don't watch the movie. Even if you've seen it before, hopefully it was a long time ago so you don't have a strong impression of the characters imprinted on your brain beforehand.

2. Put on your I Love Yuuhi and/or Sumika Glasses. It will be easier to enjoy if you go in wanting to love them.

And now for something lighter ♥

Underclassmen Julie is Watching, and Mistakes

Early on in the cafe when Ban-san is singing "Knock on Wood", some of the customers are into it and some of them have to be dragged into it. ;) Man #1 aka Monchi, for example, has been morosely in the bottle up until that point... But Miko-chan takes her arm and makes her knock on the wood of the piano ♥

In the Paris flashback during the Sudden Can-Can, a few girls get up and dance on the nearest tables. On Sunday the can-can dancer on Ten-chan's table was Urara; today it was Kurumin! I need to figure out if this is because of understudy shifting or if different girls get to dance on the tables each day. X3

Ten-chan also stands up on a table or chair near the end of the Battle of the Anthems X3 And in Paris, sits alone at a table and glares at the wine list / her glass of whatever and impatiently waits for Chisa-chan... But by the end of the can-can she's suddenly on the other side of the stage and mysteriously decides to dance with Ririko-chan, which admittedly is adorable considering Ten-chan is pretty skinny and Ririko-chan is all plump and curvy. Then again, Chisa-chan is too ;)

Not an underclassmen, but Mii-chan making the champagne cocktail ♥ ♥ ♥ First she pours liquid out of one bottle... then another bottle... then cuts a bit of lemon and squeezes it in... All the while keeping watch to make sure Berger & Laszlo's conversation isn't overheard... Yes. Mii-chan making drinks is a happy place X3 ♥

General notes: from the second floor, watching Chii-chan play with rig run the roulette table is awesome. ;D Unrelated, Urara-chan and Ryouko-chan are the cutest musumeyaku in beards ever. J-ko is the cutest bearded French soldier ever XDDD ♥

And Juma-chu is the most gay ridiculous Italian officer ever.

In the cafe, Re-re is going around selling flowers to people, which is her cover so she can talk to members of the resistance. But she does actually sell them to various customers.

Including Juma-chu.

On Sunday, I saw the following scene:

Juma: *buys a flower, ponders it*
Mayu: *comes over to see if Juma needs anything*
Juma: *gives the flower to Mayu*
Mayu: *really awkwardly takes it*
*slowly and with a horrified expression, walks back to BonBon*
*presumably explains that the weirdo Italian guy just gave her a flower*
BonBon: *looks kind of disgusted but amused*
Mayu: *still in shock, wanders a bit and eventually leaves the flower on a random table*

Mayu-chan plays a boy, you see. A cute little curly-haired and excitable BOY waiter.

Juma: *while possibly hitting on Re-re, gets talked into buying three flowers*
*stands up, goes over and gives one to Mayu-chan and one to BonBon*
Mayu & BonBon: *both horrified*
Mayu: *asks what they should do with the flowers*
BonBon: *indicates that Mayu should decorate her vest with it*
Mayu: *does not seem to be fond of this idea*
BonBon: *makes Mayu take her flower too*
Mayu: *now has two flowers from creepy Italian guy*
*silently calls across the room to the other boy waiter, Ebi-chan*
*communicates through gesture that Juma is hitting on her and BonBon*
Ebi-chan & Fuuma (the other doorman): *horrified*
Mayu: *disturbed, stashes the flowers on the nearby drink trolley*

Oh my god. Is this "you had to be there"... Or really as amazingly hilarious as I think it is?!?! XDDD

And lastly!

- Yuuhi and Micchan are talking on the ginkyou when Yuuhi gives Micchan a very unexpected bit of news. In surprise, Micchan drops her hat. On shonichi, she dropped it too realistically and it bounced right into the audience XDDDD A lady had to stand up and give it back to her XDDDD

- Also on shonichi, Juma-chu had a bit of trouble opening the door of the airport ground control room. ;P

- Sunday the 15th, 3:00PM show. Apparently one of the screens failed during the airplane take-off, so the plane was missing one wing and instead the audience saw a "Windows error" or something. Except for me, because I was too busy opera-glass-ing Micchan...?! >_____<;;;

- Also on this day, Can-Can Dancer Ryouko-chan almost lost her hat. ^^;;; She really stuck out awkwardly holding her hat on but still kept dancing ♥

- Monday the 16th. Car fail. XD It seems the Nazi car couldn't get started up on time, so Tomochin had to awkwardly run on stage instead of arriving in style. ;P

More of these sorts of stories will follow, I'm sure ;D

I find it pretty hilarious even just reading it!! XD
Poor horrified baby otokoyaku! ^__^;

*ignores everything under the cut in this post. Accidentally sees a comment about Micchan not being serious enough and chooses to ignore it XD*

1. Don't watch the movie. Even if you've seen it before, hopefully it was a long time ago so you don't have a strong impression of the characters imprinted on your brain beforehand.

Too late ^^; I was actually watching a documentary on Casablanca the other day, and they talked about how the two attempts to make a TV series out of the movie and why they failed.

Ever since then, I've looked at the upcoming production more as "Soragumi Does Casablanca" rather than something that is necessarily going to be equal to one of the best movies ever made.

2. Put on your I Love Yuuhi and/or Sumika Glasses. It will be easier to enjoy if you go in wanting to love them.

I'll admit, I do want to love Yuuhi. But I promise to leave my squeeing to Manda? ;)

What I said was that 3 viewings haven't changed my opinions much on the main characters, so if you already spoiled yourself on my original thoughts then it's not much different.

"Soragumi Does Casablanca" = as a production, I maintain the right to like the original better. *shrugs* I adore my troupe, but taken objectively as a whole... yeah.

You can squee to Manda and you can squee to me. I'm just less likely to agree with you and squee back about certain things. ^^;;;

I am predictably most dead of adorable from Mii-chan pouring drinks while making sure her douki's srs revolutionary talking isn't overheard. <3

I like how I can do one half of those two things. Ignoring what's under the cut; I'm sure that when we finally reunite in January, though, we will pour forth our opinions in a veritable déluge. ;)

Do you know, I think I might agree with you about Sumika? I've heard so much gushing praise about her I had already decided I loved her, but I finally was able to get a hold of some significant clips of her. And...I was really disappointed. Probably because I'd already convinced myself she was the next O-Hana (not that she looks like O-Hana, but that she was ready for stardom at a ridiculously young age) and found...a really young musumeyaku, who seemed mostly indistinguishable from other really young musumeyaku. And I've never liked Yuuhi at all; I assumed it wouldn't matter, since I assumed I loved everyone else, but now that I know I don't like both stars I've kind of gone from being all excited about the new soragumi to kind of wondering what happened. :(

Anyway, sorry for the outburst, but I felt like I had to let out my disappointment just once.

After the announcement that she'd be my troupe's new top musumeyaku, the first thing I saw Sumika in was Oguri! I watched her very closely and sort of silently dared her to impress me and prove that she was at the level of "the next O-Hana".

But she wasn't; only one of her scenes in the show impressed me at all.

Yuuhi is a more complicated issue, but as far as "kind of wondering what happened" to Soragumi... Yeah, I feel you at 200%.

Tomochin had to awkwardly run on stage
I laughed so hard at this this morning. <3

As I hear, the "car screech" sound was still there, which made it even more silly. XDD;;;

Unrelatedly, seen this yet?
