"Aibou" Voice Post Review
Two months ago I made a short post raving about Aibou with a promise to write a full review later.

Tonight I fulfill that promise with seven voice posts totaling about 1 hour and 15 minutes of blather about this show :D

One - Two - Three - Four - Five - Six - Seven

Notes of an embarrassing nature: You can hear my tea kettle warm up and start whistling in the background of the second post. ^^;; I incorrectly refer to Mebuki Yukina as "Mebae" Yukina, three times >.>;;; *fail* I think in the fifth voice post I say "Sou and Miwacchi" when I meant to say "Sou and Mattsu".

Notes of a general nature: You have to put up with me rambling, pausing as I try to remember stuff, and referring to most of the principal cast primarily by nicknames and the pronoun "she". I pass on some details, or point out details that I forget to follow up on later, and totally don't mention Miwacchi in the final cast run-down ^^;;; (I'm sorry, she just consistently fails at hitting any of my buttons so I don't remember her a lot of the time...)

Notes on costumes: Since I largely forgot to mention them at all... I once again draw your attention to Amachaki, because her jeans and sneakers are the cutest ever. Also, I failed to point out that Ayane wears a kimono. And they reused the costumes from the A/L finale, which made me pout a little bit.

The rest I think you can figure out yourself. :)

(End note: Actually there was one more thing. I counted, okay, over THIRTY people downloaded my Solferino voice posts and ELEVEN people commented. Accusing looks at anonymous people who bother to listen but not comment. :P)

Haha I commented before I listened but I never did comment afterwards. Sorry! ^^; I got distracted by something. I did LOVE the posts though, it felt wonderful hearing about my babies. <3

At least you commented *something* to identify yourself as one of the people who downloaded them!! :X

(Don't know if you're as interested in over an hour about Hanagumi, but... ^^;;;)

Could take a while to find the time to listen through an hour and fifteen minutes but I'm going to give it a go because I've wanted to know more about this show. Thanks for taking the time to do the recording.

We clearly have different expectations on getting comments. I looked at your figures of 30+ downloads and 11 comments and thought; wow more than one third commented, that's great.... :-)
Julie: kazu thinkwao_wao on February 28th, 2010 03:19 pm (UTC)
With comments, I guess... It's weird enough knowing that people pass through and read my dinky little blog anonymously. It's weirder to know that people take the time to download recordings of my voice, which I feel are a little more personal... But I have no idea who they are or what they think.

Please do tell me what you think. :) <3

*embarrassed laugh* Yes, I listened to your Solferino voice post as well *cough* I was going to write "thank you" of course, and that I'm pretty impressed about your ability to make so wonderful voice posts! - and then forgot about it. ^^;;

Solferino was the first voice post I heard from you. For me it would be really difficult to talk about something for so long in a coherent way. *is a bad story teller*

I had read your post about Aibou and instantly decided to have a friend buy me that dvd, too *g* (she flew to Tokyo today and will come back in April).

Now I've just listened to your first Aibou voice post. You talk about a lot of details again, which is nice, but I think I'll download the other parts and refrain from listening to them until after I've watched the dvd. *does not want to spoil herself too much this time*
But be ensured I'll listen to all parts eventually <3

(Somehow I often keep silent despite reading your journal regularly. Must have something to do with me not knowing much about Soragumi? But I'll try to do better in the future ;))

You don't have to promise to comment more often. <3 It's just, as I said above, that it feels weird knowing that people are listening to my voice and not saying anything... >.>;;

I will fess up to being one of the creepy stalkers ^.^; *waves* I'm going to be sitting through Solferino four times at the end of April and I wanted to know what I was going to be in for!

Your review was very amusing and I'll think I'll enjoy the play more for hearing it (especially since I'm not much for really dark dramatic plays, why couldn't she have gotten a fun upbeat play for her final one?) so thank you!

Okay I'll stop being a creepy stalker now!

Thank you for commenting. :) If my report increases your understanding and therefore your enjoyment of the show in some way, then it was worth the effort. <3 I've said my piece on the play, but I do think the revue is worth sitting through four times! I'm sure you'll find it lots of fun. ^^

Oh. I might have been one of the people who downloaded your voice post about Solferino. I'm sorry for not commenting!! I mean, THANK YOU for the post!! I am shy sometimes.. sorry for being all lurker-ish on you...

And thank you for this review, also. :)

Well, thank you for commenting belatedly. ;) It's good to know that my silly voice post entertained people!

I am still of the opinion these should be a regular feature :) Extremely entertaining, and useful should I ever get a dvd of Aibou (which is starting to look intriguing). I had the same opinion of Matobun after I saw her in Me and My Girl vs things like Legend - she's so much happier playing a quirky fun character, someone with more flexibility than a standard top role.

If ever I could strike a balance between blathering too much and too little ^^;; But still, I do hesitate to share my voice on a regular basis; it just feels strange... On the other hand, with people being so supportive about it... :)

In any case, comments like "extremely entertaining and useful" are always appreciated ♥

I see you weren't deterred from making these due to my insistence to watch clips, last night. ;) These were a joy to listen to, and return me to my fond memories of my own experience seeing Aibou. And I am in agreement with much of what you said, other than your ambivalence towards Sou (which may, after all, just be a product of Sexy Beam on my end). Such a full, satisfying, balanced show this one was.

Aww, you listened to them -- even though you saw the show yourself, and already got Julie-pyon Does Aibou Live Version!

i'm still listening to them coz i got distracted by the hockey game :p

but i humbly ask you to consider doing more :D

if your solferino post is any indication, i will definitely be enjoying these as well.

I do hope you enjoyed them!!

Okay, from your description that sequence with Ayane and Miwacchi was seriously creepy! (And somewhat pushing the boundaries for Zuka, even if nothing was shown) I was relieved when that other thing was revealed -_- (trying to be vague so as to not be spoilery) That being said, I'm glad Ayane-chan got a good role <3

Anyway, from your description it sounds like a good chunk of the cast got fun things to do, which is especially impressive given how much of star-tracked hanagumi was in Aibou as opposed to Bund/Neon Shanghai. Anyway, I agree with you about liking two-act shows for this reason.

Re: Ichika, I had always considered her off the star track, given that she never had a shinko lead. It sounds like this time her role was small, but she's done decently in the past. Here's hoping she sticks around for a while <3

Distraction... working... *_______*

(But I do hope you eventually listen to these and tell me your thoughts, as they were primarily made for you ♥)

Oh no!!! Did you eventually get to download parts 4 ~ 6?? I wouldn't want you to miss the climax of the story and everything, if you wanted to hear it...

A show called "Aibou" about cops. You'll hate me, but my brain went straight to "Fake." *facepalm*

I love Ayane-chan's character. And Miwacchi's, actually, because I am a sucker for weak moron types.

I love seduction "please don't/I must/we mustn't/we must!" song. I love creepy murder plan song. I LOVE ALL THE FEMALE CHARACTERS. Especially how Amachaki was a clever English spycop all along, and not a flat character – and Ayane's character in just about every way. I love how the detective bits are actually cute and classic deduction style – and I loved the revelation at the end about Ayane's motives. Ayane ;__;

Anyway, thank you so much for the post. This wasn't on my radar before, but it sounds like it was absolutely incredible. <3
Julie: ayane gazewao_wao on March 7th, 2010 08:43 am (UTC)
The reference is lost on me, as "Fake" was one of the first anime I ever watched back in high school... I... don't want to think about how long it's been since high school >.>;;

Anyway, thank YOU for listening and commenting and realizing that this show is indeed LOVE. It was seriously wonderful and should be on everyone's radars ♥ ♥ ♥

i am so glad i had downloaded your aibou voice reviews before my flight home from minneapolis. it made the flight so much more bearable and i was just grinning as i listened to your reviews. anyone on my flight who saw me must have thought i was nutty... ;-)

i adore the hanagumi actresses, esp yuu-chan and ayane-chan and i wasn't sure if i would get the dvd since i assumed that there would be more dialogue than music & dance (a tad difficult for me to appreciate the show given my lack of japanese language knowledge). but after listening to your reviews, even tho there were some incomplete parts (no criticism intended... in fact this was what made it real and fun), it is definitely on my buy list. thx much for your frank and amusing reviews. i do like the story and i agree it is a good one! cheers
