ファントム制作発表
See, I heard that the Phantom press conference was yesterday -- why are there photos up on Daily and Sanspo before it being announced on the official site? It's been a day now...

*stares*

*sighs longingly*

So Nakamura-sensei says that they want the production to be closer to Leroux's original work, and Maury Yeston wrote two more songs for them.

I'm intensely curious as to where they'll feature in the show / what they'll be replacing.

THANK YOU FOR THOSE PICTURES <33333333

I don't know about two new numbers, let's hope they're pretty good . . . but personally I want to see them dance more. Now that would really really be something for these two ;3; ;3; ;3;

Two new numbers is exciting news, but I really want to know the full extent of this "getting closer to the original work" statement. Will there be different characters? Will the Phantom be less emotionally sympathetic and more calculating and cruel? How big of a promise are they making here?

Gee, I hope not > <;;; I mean, isn't Erik's sympathetic side the main point in this version? That was the part I really loved the most and cried at ;__;

But I think it's possible to portray a cold and seemingly-detached character who still has a subtle emotional side. Like Der Tod. (Unsurprisingly, Zunko's is my favorite blend of detachment and emotion.)

*nod* I agree. The original novel was meant to be a monster story; Erik was the monster, a horrible creature. Nevertheless, he was quite sympathetic in the end in his brokenness. Both these things make him interesting.

Agreed completely. The Andrew Lloyd Webber characterization of the Phantom was always too...melodramatic for me.

What a great idea! Zuka really made this play their own when Wao/Hana did it; I've heard the original English soundtrack, and WaoHana were miles ahead. Now the new songs confirm it. :) Who knows, maybe Yeston will start doing regular work with them, like Wildhorn. :D
